If one were to approach either Frank Hughes or Dave Robinson ten years ago and tell them they would be partnering up to create a professional wrestling promotion together, they both would have most likely laughed in one's face. But now in the year 2014 exactly that has happened. And nearly everyone who knows the two of them is floored at the move.
Two men who have been at each others' throats since adolescence as they grew up in the same neighborhood have now buried the hatchet and combined their minds to form Midwest Premier Wrestling. An Ohio based promotion that they believe will turn the heads of fans and workers alike.
"Over the years Frank and I have been in a constant battle with one always trying to out do the other. And I guess you can say in the process we were bettering our talents and abilities. We both believe now is the time to combine forces and show the wrestling world what our two creative minds can do. With the amount of force we asserted toward each other over the years I believe the magnitude of our partnership will be stellar and MPW will become a dominant force," Said Robinson.
With the recent acquisition of American Christian Wrestling Association by the ShootJunkies Network and its partners Hughes and Robinson were put in a good position to start up MPW which they had already been working on forming months before the buyout since Robinson's departure from Elite All Pro Wrestling as their general manager.
The two men's professional careers practically mirror each other as they both broke into the wrestling business in late 2008. With Robinson quickly rising to the helm of Johnny Diamond's Dynamic Wrestling Alliance at the time and Hughes leading the Unstoppable Wrestling Alliance with Jason Kimera and Kenny Kitchens helping him along.
The news was dropped January 1, 2014, when MPW publicly announced they would hold their first event Midwest Showdown just outside of Wilmington, Ohio the following Saturday, February 22, 2014. With a big main event pitting the native Canadian Ryan Michaels against JRoc and tag team match with The Shamrock Saints facing The Mexican Mafia the house might just be brought down.
"I believe both me and Dave have realized that the industry in general was in need of a drastic change. Together we have formulated the right ingredients to implement a brand that is vibrant and sustainable," said Hughes.
Tickets for Midwest Showdown are on sale at Unique Gifts in Clarksville, Ohio and more ticket info can be obtained online at The Official MPW website
